IKA kneading machines are designed for the processing and homogenizing of medium and high-viscous masses. IKA's PLANETRON heavy-duty kneading machines are vertical kneading machines with two DUPLEX-like kneading blades. PLANETRON kneading machines are always useful when high-viscous masses have to be kneaded intensively and with absolutely no chance of contamination. IKA's PLANETRON kneading machines produce, for example, dental masses, ceramic masses, plastic mixtures, pharmaceutical and cosmetic products as well as food products. IKA's heavy-duty HKD and HKS horizontal kneading machines are twin bowl kneading machines with horizontally arranged kneading shafts. These kneading machines are able to process mixtures with extremely high viscosities. This is why these kneading machines are particularly suitable for the production of rubber masses, plastic mixtures, ceramic masses, printing ink, carbon pastes, graphite mixtures etc. The CONTERNA is a continuously working multi-chamber kneading machine that is patented worldwide. The CONTERNA's unique concept allows for shorter kneading periods and improved product quality when producing, for example, rubber master batches, plastics master batches, glues, hard metal masses, sealing masses, animal food, silicone rubber, and high-viscous food. |

IKA high performance HKD and HKS horizontal kneading machines are twin-bowl kneading machines with horizontally arranged kneading blades, able to process mixtures with very high viscosities. The distinctive feature of these kneading machines lies in their kneading elements, which enable them to be adapted to a broad spectrum of applications: from the production of low viscosity adhesives (hot melts) to extremely high viscosity rubber mixtures. The excellent kneading and dispersion achieved with the high performance HKD kneading machine is based on the principle of intermeshing DUPLEX kneading blades, which have a reciprocal stripping action. The speed ratio of the kneading blades is 2:1. This creates an alternating movement of the blade surfaces towards and away from one another. This produces high pressure and shear forces and thus a high level of friction in the product, resulting in intensive mixing and fine dispersion of the product. The HKS is a kneading machine with horizontally arranged, Z-shaped kneading blades. In the case of the HKS, the distance between the shafts of the kneading blades is greater than the external diameter of the blades. There is, therefore, no reciprocal stripping of the kneading blades. The kneading blades rotate in opposite directions, resulting in continuous movement of the product from the side walls of the kneading bowl to the center of the kneading bowl or the reverse, depending on the direction of rotation. The speed ratio of the kneading blades is 5:3. The different rotation speeds of the kneading blades rotating in opposite directions produce high pressure forces and thus result in intensive mixing. All machines in the HKS and HKD series have double-jacketed bowls for heating/cooling. The product is discharged by tipping the kneading bowl or by means of a discharge screw. The machines in both series are driven directly by a geared motor. A frequency converter allows infinitely variable speed adjustment. A particular feature of IKA horizontal kneading machines is the option to remove the complete side wall of the kneading bowl either hydraulically or manually on two turns of the bowl. This enables easy cleaning of the kneading blades and discharge screw in the case of a product change. Options:

IKA heavy-duty PLANETRON® HKV kneading machines are vertical kneading machines with two DUPLEX kneading blades. The design of the PLANETRON® kneading machine allows the kneading shafts to be supported on bearings and to be sealed outside the product container. This enables the production of absolutely pure compounds. The excellent kneading and dispersion achieved with these kneading machines is based on the principle of intermeshing kneading blades, with one blade rotating in a planetary motion around the other and the two blades having a reciprocal stripping action. The strong increasing and decreasing pressure and shear forces thus created lead to thorough kneading and fine dispersion of the product within a very short timeframe. The kneading blades are supported overhung on stable roller bearings, positioned well above contact with the product. The machine is powered by a geared motor with a frequency converter allowing infinitely variable speed adjustment. All bowls in the HKV series are designed for cooling / heating and for vacuum operation. The machine is entirely controlled from a switchboard panel installed near the machine. The advantages compared with horizontally arranged kneading blades include low-maintenance seals on the kneading shafts, the option of processing minimum quantities and the possibility of using a number of kneading bowls. The conterna is a continuous operation multi-chamber kneading machine patented throughout the world. The standard version comprises 6 horizontal chambers arranged in series, each powered by a frequency controlled ac motor. All 6 chambers are arranged together in a block. Liquid and solid components can be introduced into the top of each chamber (except the final one). The product is discharged from the 6th chamber via a discharge nozzle or a gear pump connected by a flange, depending on the material and viscosity. The top and bottom of the chamber block each have an independent temperature control jacket. the conterna kneading machine is constructed as a modular system, i. E. Both the number of kneading chambers as well as the design of the kneading tools and discharge module can be varied depending on the application and desired results. This allows the kneading intensity and product residence time in the machine to be adjusted individually to each application. Variants on the standard 6-chamber machine have already been constructed with 4, 5, 8 and 12 chambers, in each case to meet the requirements of the product to be processed. the arrangement of a number of chambers in series enables continuous mixing. Each processing chamber has 2 duplex-type kneading elements arranged one above the other and with infinitely variable speed adjustment via the motor. The liquid or solid component to be introduced is continuously conveyed from chamber to chamber by the kneading elements before being discharged from the last chamber. whereas in conventional extrusion processes the product residence time is only relatively short and thus only a limited energy input is possible, the conterna continuous, multi-chamber kneading system offers a wide range of residence times, which can be set as required. The continuous conveyance of the product from one chamber to the next ensures intensive, but gentle and uniform substance mixing. In addition, significantly higher solids contents can be achieved than with conventional extruders. the conterna concept allows a number of process steps to be combined in one machine, such as the mixing, kneading, rolling and extrusion of medium to high viscosity media. Continuous processes have considerable advantages over batch processes – provided that the process parameters allow it. the kneading chamber cover is removable to allow cleaning and maintenance of the machine. The complete kneading chamber block can be opened hydraulically, providing easy access to the kneading chambers and kneading blades. the kneading machine is operated by a touch screen operator terminal with graphics capabilities (hmi) incorporated into the switchboard panel. accessories / options:
